Adjunct Ensemble

Adjunct Ensemble is a fluid collective of musicians and artists led by Irish composer and producer Jamie Thompson. Their collagist anti-opera ‘Sovereign Bodies / Ritual Taxonomy’, released on Diatribe Records, was The Guardian’s album of the month in May 2023 (a disorientating act of resistance) and was shortlisted for the 2024 Deutsche Jazz Preis. The record is a four-movement, 90 minute piece for jazz-punk trio, electronics, turnablist, spoken word poet and operatic soprano. A furious polyglottal work of colliding tongues and entanglements of improvisational practices, it implicates itself in the horror of the European Union's failure to address, with humanity, the desperation of refugees at its borders.

‘Habits Of Assembly’ was released in August 2024 on Touch Sensitive Records. A fiery recording of an acclaimed live performance at Café Oto in London in 2023, it sees the ensemble slimmed down to a taut quintet, creating new spontaneous compositions haunted by their first record Sovereign Bodies / Ritual Taxonomy.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   Jamie is one half of pop experimentalists Ex-Isles.
